Red Wine and Your Health
Much research has been done over recent years into the positive effects of red wine on general health and life expectancy. The most up to date research that provides the most substantiated evidence in our view has been carried by Dr. Roger Corder of the William Harvey Institute. In his books The Wine Diet and The Red Wine Diet, Dr Corder explains the “French Paradox” - the fact that the French have lower rates of heart disease, cancer and a higher life expectancy, especially in the South of France despite eating a lot of saturated fat. This is explained by the Mediterranean-style diet, within which particular red wines rich in a particular type of polyphenol group called procyanidins play a major role.
There is plenty of information on dangers associated with drinking too much alchohol. Wine is no exception and so moderation is the key word. A couple of glasses of a typical alcohol content wine per day is a good rule of thumb and won’t do you any harm. Alcohol is actually beneficial to the human body in small quantities.
